Every time we tell people we work in flowers we get the usual “Oh wow! Flowers, how exciting!” or “I would love to work with beautiful flowers all day!” And we agree—at least 99% of the time. The other 1%— when we want to tell people that it’s not always fun is usually during the holiday rush.

We’ve been in the business since 25+ years & we’ve seen our fair share of panic & chaos during the holiday. As distributors, our schedule is a little different—blood, sweat and tears are usually shed a few days before the retail rush. By the time our flowers are delivered to our customers, we are usually feeling exhausted.

However, we have to admit—we’ve learned how to handle these stressful situations a little better throughout the years. (There are times when we are solely depending on Mother Nature to come through for us. If that’s not stressful we don’t know what is). So, we thought “Why not share some insights of what’s worked for us in the past?”

Here are some tips & tricks to help you navigate through the stress and make your Valentine’s Day a little easier.

Stock up on Vitamin C

Flu season + probably one of the most important days of the year for the floral industry = NO BUENO. The last thing you want to do is get sick! Some of us buy big boxes of Emergen-C and have at least one a day. Whether you’re drinking or eating it, don’t forget your vitamin C.

Make Sure to Stretch

Whether you’re sitting at a desk all day processing orders or making beautiful floral creations, it’s important to take mini breaks throughout the day to stretch your body. We’re not doctors or anything, but when we’re stressed everything seems to hurt more!

At Golden Flowers, we’ve made this a team activity —we’ll put on some fun music and perform the exercises together.

Snack Right

Ever heard of the expression, “You are what you eat?” Well, if you want to be as productive as possible, make sure to eat foods that will fill you up. We know it’s hard to get full meals in during the holiday rush—sometimes we can’t even take a bathroom break! However, it’s important to not go too many hours without eating. We recommend munching on fruit, veggie sticks, hummus, nuts and other nutrient-filled snacks. Pick snacks that are easy to prepare and will make sure you’re satisfied for longer periods of time.

Keep Yourself Hydrated & Well-Rested

Again, we know that during this time it’s hard to follow even the most basic self-care tips but these two are very important. If you’re having a hard time falling asleep, drink some chamomile tea before bed or even invest in some calming lavender oil (although natural, consult with your doctor before using any of these products!)

B-R-E-A-T-H-E

This one might sound a little dumb but you’ll be surprised how many of us have admitted to forgetting to breathe during those hectic days. Remember, you’re only human and sometimes situations are just out of your control. Be as organized and detailed as possible PRIOR to the rush so you can avoid as many worrying scenarios as possible.

We wish you the best of luck throughout the holiday. Remember, you're not alone. And don't forget: we're here to Help People Express Feelings with Flowers. Isn't that a beautiful thing?
